About Crystal

I believe that the best therapy is done when your relationship with your therapist has a strong foundation, meaning, you like and trust your therapist enough so the therapy space becomes a place for creating the changes you want. I believe in people and their ability to heal. We all develop patterns of being and thinking and sometimes those patterns just don't work anymore. I am compassionate when exploring emotional and psychological patterns, anxiety, depression or relationship issues to establish new boundaries, and feel empowered.

I'm Crystal Spiegel, a trauma-informed psychotherapist and consultant based in a private office in New York City. I work exclusively with individuals seeking a safe, discreet, and emotionally attuned space to work through the deep impacts of Complex PTSD and relational trauma. Whether your trauma stems from childhood experiences, long-term emotional neglect, or high-functioning survival modes, I offer an approach that blends clinical expertise with deep empathy — grounded in confidentiality and trust.

I have received post graduate training in EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Advanced Clinical Practice in Trauma, Expressive Arts Therapy, Internal Family Systems and sound healing. I have over 10 years of experience as a therapist. I am a certified EMDR therapist, Level 3-trained IFS therapist, Level 2-trained Sensorimotor Psychotherapy therapist, and have a PhD in Expressive Therapies, with a research focus on digital storytelling and trauma.

Questions Crystal is often asked

What types of therapy do you offer?

I provide trauma-informed psychotherapy using evidence-based approaches including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and expressive therapies. Every treatment plan is tailored to your individual goals and experiences.

Who do you work with?

I work primarily with adults experiencing Complex PTSD, childhood trauma, anxiety, relational trauma, perfectionism, emotional neglect, and life transitions. I also specialize in supporting artists, creatives, and therapists seeking personal or professional growth.

Do I need to have experienced a major traumatic event to benefit from trauma therapy?

No. Trauma isn't defined solely by dramatic events. Many people experience trauma through chronic emotional neglect, difficult family dynamics, repeated rejection, bullying, or prolonged stress. If past experiences continue to affect your relationships, emotions, or sense of safety, therapy may help.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first session is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, personal history, goals, and any questions you may have about therapy. We'll also explore whether my therapeutic approach feels like a good fit for you before creating a plan together.

How long does therapy usually last?

The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some clients seek short-term support for a specific challenge, while others choose longer-term therapy to work through complex trauma or long-standing emotional patterns.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Therapy is a confidential space where your privacy is protected according to professional and legal standards, with a few exceptions required by law involving safety concerns.
