Privacy
Last Updated: August 5, 2026
Welcome to TherapyKind.com ("TherapyKind," "we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information with care and respect. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our website and services (collectively, the "Service").
Our Service is designed to help you find and connect with licensed, in-person therapists in your area within the United States. By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide and improve our Service to you. The type of information we collect depends on how you interact with our platform.
a) Information You Provide to Us:
- Search Queries: When you search for a therapist, we collect the information you enter, such as your location (city, state, or ZIP code) and any specific search terms or filters you use (e.g., "anxiety," "cognitive behavioral therapy"). This information is essential to provide you with relevant results.
- Account Information: If you create an account — for example, to claim or manage a therapist listing — we collect your name, email address, and login credentials.
- Therapist Listing Content: If you are a therapist, we collect the professional information you add to your listing, such as your biography, credentials, license details, practice address, photos, and any introductory video you upload. Introductory videos may also be published to TherapyKind's official YouTube channel, as described in our Terms of Service. Listing content is intended to be public.
- Payment Information: Paid listings are processed by our payment processor, Stripe. Your card number goes directly to Stripe — we never see or store your full card details. We retain records of your transactions (plan, amount, date, and billing status).
- Messages and Enquiries: If you contact a therapist through tools on our Service (such as an enquiry form or on-site message), we collect and store that message so it can be delivered.
- Communications: If you contact us directly via email or a contact form, we will collect your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
b) Information We Collect Automatically:
- Location Data: To power our core search functionality, we automatically collect your location data. This may be derived from your IP address or, with your explicit permission, from your device's more precise GPS data. You can disable location services on your device, but this will limit the functionality of our location-based search.
- Log and Usage Data: Like most websites, we collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service. This may include your computer's Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other statistics. We use this data for analytics and to improve the user experience.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies to operate and administer our site, gather usage data, and improve your experience. A cookie is a piece of information sent to your browser from a website and stored on your device. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.
c) Information About Therapists from Public Sources:
- To build our directory, we collect publicly available professional information about licensed therapists — such as name, credentials, license information, practice location, and practice descriptions — from sources like state licensing board records, professional directories, and practice websites. We may use AI tools to help organize and draft listing content from these sources, and listings are reviewed before publication. If you are a therapist and would like your listing corrected or removed, contact us at hi@therapykind.com or use the report option on your listing — removal requests are honored as described in our Terms of Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To Provide and Maintain Our Service: Primarily, to process your search queries and display licensed therapists near your location.
- To Operate Listings and Accounts: To create and manage therapist listings, process claims, and handle subscription billing.
- To Deliver Communications: To deliver enquiries and messages you send to therapists through the Service.
- To Improve Our Service: To understand how users interact with our platform, analyze trends, and make our Service more effective and user-friendly.
- For Security: To monitor for and prevent fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity on our platform.
- To Communicate With You: To respond to your questions, comments, and requests.
- To Comply with Legal Obligations: To meet any applicable legal or regulatory requirements.
3. How We Share Your Information
Your privacy is paramount. Our sharing practices are guided by this principle.
- We DO NOT sell your personal information.
- We DO NOT share your individual search queries with the therapists listed on our platform. A therapist will not know that you specifically searched for them or for a particular specialty unless you choose to contact them directly.
We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We share information with third-party vendors that help us operate our business. These currently include website hosting and content delivery providers (Hetzner, Cloudflare), our payment processor (Stripe), cloud storage for uploaded videos (Amazon Web Services), video hosting (YouTube), email delivery services, mapping and location services (Google Maps), and AI services used to help draft listing content from public professional sources (Google Gemini). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose.
- Aggregated or De-Identified Data: We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. For example, we might share statistics like "the most searched specialty in New York" for research or business purposes.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect and defend our rights or property, or protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
4. A Special Note on Health Information & HIPAA
TherapyKind.com is a resource directory, not a healthcare provider.
- The information you enter into our search bar (like a location or therapy type) is not considered Protected Health Information (PHI) under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) because you have not yet established a patient-therapist relationship.
- We are not a "Covered Entity" under HIPAA. Our platform serves as a tool to help you find a professional.
- If you contact a therapist using tools on our Service (such as an enquiry form or message), that message is transmitted and stored by our Service so it can be delivered. Please avoid including detailed health information in an initial enquiry — save those details for your direct, confidential communication with the therapist.
- Once you click on a link to a therapist's website or use their contact information to initiate communication, you are leaving the TherapyKind.com Service. Any information you share directly with a therapist or their practice is subject to their individual privacy practices and HIPAA compliance procedures. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any therapist you contact.
5. Your Data Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. These may include:
- Right to Access: You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Right to Deletion: You have the right to request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to Correction: You have the right to request that we correct any inaccurate information we hold about you.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at hi@therapykind.com. We will respond to your request in accordance with applicable law.
6. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. We use technologies like Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt data in transit. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not intended for or directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information from our servers.
8. Links to Other Websites
Our Service contains listings that link to the individual websites of therapists. This Privacy Policy applies only to our Service. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any other website you visit.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
